Eye Care Center of Colorado Springs recently contracted with Elk Creek Technology Partners to perform a major upgrade of computer systems and applications. Elk Creek Technology Partners installed a new Central Server, replaced four existing workstations and installed new computers in each exam room. All of these systems were custom-built by Elk Creek. In addition, they upgraded our OfficeMate business software, installed ExamWriter, an Electronic Records Management application and AcuityPro, a computer-based Snellen Eye Test.

How would you evaluate the performance and responsiveness of Elk Creek Computer Solutions in installing your new systems and providing on-going support?
The team at Elk Creek was always ready to listen and help me find solutions from the very beginning of this project. They did extensive research on their own time once they learned what software products I was considering purchasing. This was of tremendous help during the installation and start-up period. They present themselves in a highly competent and professional manner which was important to me because they spent significant time in the office as we were caring for patients. I anticipated that making the change to electronic medical records would be a difficult and agonizing process. I could not be happier with the ease with which my practice has made this change.
Is the AcuityPro Eye Test giving you a marketing advantage?
AcuityPro is an element that differentiates my practice as one who is on the leading edge of technology and willing to invest in things that improve the patient experience.
Consistency is essential in recording the visual ability of patients especially on repeat visits such as laser vision correction follow-up visits and monitoring contact lens performance. With old fashioned projectors the quality of light on the acuity screen can vary depending on the alignment of the projector, the age and quality of the projection bulb, and the maintenance of the system. With AcuityPro, those variables are eliminated.
How has the improved speed of the new systems improved your customer service? Are you processing appointments and billing, faster and with more accuracy?
All functions are performed more quickly with our new systems, fee slips and insurance billing is faster, patients don't have to wait for me to produce written prescriptions for medications and lenses, follow-up systems are more efficient.
My staff is able to enter a large amount of information prior to me entering the exam room. I get to spend more quality time with patients. All the entries are legible and easy to find.
ExamWriter has greatly improved our documentation and communication within the office. Every staff member has access to information that streamlines the patient's experience. No more passing a chart around between doctors, staff, insurance billing, etc.
